Our Story...
Our vision for Ray Mill Island!
A community-led project to help the island to thrive
Back in the spring of 2024, two friends and Maidenhead residents went for a walk together around Ray Mill Island, close to where they both live. They could see that the Island was looking tired and needed some TLC – so they set up a community group for anyone to get involved.
The two friends are Tara Crist and Nivi Bhide. With their local connections and passion to protect nature, their mission is to restore Ray Mill Island, put the wildlife first and encourage bio-diversity.
With visitors coming to Maidenhead and enjoying Ray Mill Island, the Friends of Ray Mill Island have been working hard to take care of the flower beds and borders, create dry hedging, start a crafted nature trail and more.
In the face of nature depletion and climate change, our mission is to inspire others to invest love and attention into their beloved little island, encouraging a collective effort to rejuvenate and protect this precious environment.
